A Healthy Tip To Start YOUR Day

I am just preparing for my birthday month and want to celebrate you! As I reflect on your messages, I realize that so many of you look forward to Butterfly Wings.

I want to ask you, are you putting yourself first? Do you take time for yourself and make your health a priority?

I know almost thirteen years ago, diagnosed with breast cancer, I was putting everyone else first. It is easy not to put your health at the top of your value list until something unexpected happens to you.

I have learned that in order to be there for others it is most important to look after yourself first.

So how do you put your health first? How do you shift from the idea of the quick fix to the true prevention of cancer and adding years to your life?

Often times when something major happens, things seems overwhelming.

Two weeks ago our city was in a state of emergency, a catastrophic flood not seen before in the history of Alberta. It is comforting to know that Calgary and surrounding areas, with still so much more to do, developed the Theme – Stampede 101-Hell or High Water. With homes evacuated, flooded basements, unrecoverable losses for many due to Mother Nature, the thing that really stands out for me is the volunteers of this growing city that still embrace small town hospitality.

July 5th was the opening day of Stampede 101 and there were over 250,000 people lining the parade route, including the first responders, firefighters, city workers and more. It was emotional for sure, but it gave us the first opportunity to see how hard work made this all happen.

Still amidst another storm on Friday night, drenching communities already flooded, it seemed too much.

The parade gave some a chance to take a break and celebrate Calgary on a beautiful morning with Stampede breakfasts, pancakes and the like. In the crowd, to support, not being there for several years, up at 5:30 to be downtown by 6:15, there were already many people lining the parade route. It was my grand-daughter’s first parade, and she loved the horses, the princess float and watching the balloons go up in the air as she made a wish for strawberry ice cream.

Even with all of these events happening around us, it’s important to be kind to yourself.

Although we may go to sleep, our body continues to re-balance, heal, repair and restore and revitalize so we can wake up with healthy energy the next day.

Consuming a cup of warm lemon water upon rising is one small change that can have a dramatic impact on how our body functions.

Warm lemon water is a great tonic for heartburn, indigestion and bloating. It assists with regular bowl movements, a key component for those with cancer.


2. Balances PH: Lemons are considered one of the most alkalizing foods you can eat. The minerals in lemons are actually what help to clean the blood.

By reducing the overall acidity in the body, and drawing out uric acid from the joints, this reduces inflammation and creates a healthy environment. Cancer does not live in an alkaline body.


3. Boosts Energy and Improves Mood: You know those days when you may wake up on the “wrong side of the bed?” If you are cranky in the morning or during the day, you may want to think about lemon and water.

Just the scent of lemons can improve your mood and elevate energy levels. Lemons also can help with clear thinking and can help with anxiety.


How to Make Warm Lemon Water… So Simple

I keep some lemons in a bowl on the counter, they smell so nice and the color is so alive.

Squeeze 1/2 of a lemon into a glass of warm, not overly hot water.

Organic lemons are best.

Be sure to drink the lemon water before eating anything.


It is also a great pre-workout drink.
